Decorating Ideascoffe Table

Bonaire / Caribbean

Now So it begins again, a new adventure South America.

When we left Burro in Quito, we did not know that Quito is not the best air connections with Europe. So we had to fly, unfortunately, some complicated with KLM. Which meant that we are first out of Dusseldorf with the Hopper City after Amsterdam and from there flown to Bonaire. From there we drove to Quito. But we have made a virtue of necessity and for a week indulged Caribbean vacation in Bonaire.

Bonaire is one of the Lesser Antilles Netherlands , the so-called ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaco). Communication problems all, one does not. The local language is Papiamento. A wild mixture of English, Portuguese, English and African dialects. This is needed from the time when slaves doing the work here. The official language is Dutch, English and vernacular language of business English. The nice thing is that almost every resident of Bonaire mastered all these languages. Since we can smoothly take me an example of it.

So we are to un-Christian time, arrived in the morning at 3.20 clock in Bonaire. Soon we could get used to the high prices here. The taxi, which needed 5 minutes to our hotel, cost 15, - U.S. $. Our hotel, the Divi Flamingo Resort, was beautifully situated by the sea, and had already prepared for the early time of the room to us.

First, we have put ourselves to sleep again, and then enjoyed our breakfast at 8:00 clock. Since we still had to contend with the time change, there were no problems in the morning to eat already thoroughly warm. This was the way for the duration of our stay, the only warm meal of the day when the prices of 35 - passes U.S. $ per person for a meal somehow appetite.

As soon as one leaves the breakfast table here only for a few seconds, falling to the birds on the plates. Probably where the life here too expensive. They are specialized to open Butterpäcken and milk tins. Bread disappear in an instant.

While exploring the island is not large (288 km ²), but to them, you need a set of wheels. Thus we have borrowed the same for a week a car.

The small capital of Kralendijk was indeed walk away in minutes, but did not look like much. So we made our way to Washington Slagbaai National Park . In essence, Bonaire a dry, dusty island with many cacti as vegetation cover, the attraction of the island is the Marine Park is a paradise for divers and snorkelers. In the national park there are both, pristine nature and beautiful dive sites.

live here lots of birds and lizards and iguanas only otherwise. This curious little guy had to admire the first time in the mirror. He probably had a date with his sweetheart.

A Fish Called Wanda (or at least Jutta?)

The French Angel Fish had no We extensively reviewed and awe.

Here one needs only to keep your head under water to the wonderful underwater world to observe at close range. Is crowded, colorful fish of all kinds have the same course we bought a field guide (in English only). But not all the fish we could find it.

The Honeycomb Cowfish was also uniquely placed to play.

The Bonairetag took place in the Winzlingsort Rincon . We could not miss, of course. There was a diverse bustle with stalls, Musical performances and folklore events.

celebrate even the birds wanted.

the south of the island we visited restored slave cabins. So which are too small even for me. It is already sad to see how people deal with people and are handled out of sheer greed.

Since the collector's heart bleeds. Mountains of shells and not allowed to take one. All of it is here strictly protected.

Oh how life can be beautiful!

The west side of the island had a lot to offer and here we can Lagun Goto see from above, which is a sanctuary for flamingos.

which there was plenty to see.

On our last day we have a little snorkeling on the reef directly in front of our hotel window and lo and behold, here was the underwater world very diverse. From Trumpet Fish to

Parrot Fish was all there.

The time passed too quickly and at 10:09:09, we had at 2:00 Clock in the morning to connect to the airport for our onward journey to Quito. Of which more in the next blog.
