departure for Monday, 22 March 2010 - Pushkar Day 3, Annie (Mom), camel fair
The night was in contrast to the day very cool. I was both surprised over this large temperature difference and also very happy about the thick blanket that now was not too thin. Dharmu still asleep when I woke up and I turned around again. After some time, were the others, while Dharmu still time left, before dawn, so I stood up.
Because I had nothing to do, I collected in the vicinity of the adjoining property to wood. Early in the morning I was at first a chai tea and were then cooked on the fire chapati, which I ate only one.
When I no longer wanted because it seemed to me strange that I ate as a single, Paratha were prepared which were then for all. The paratha was delicious and looked different than the other because they had a triangular shape. During the meal in the morning 2 guys drove by on their motorbikes and took two of the curve on the sand to steep and went long. We ran over to help. Fortunately, he had done nothing. The moped had a few more scrapes, which was not as good as it was only borrowed, but that's just cosmetic. Balu then said to me that this is different from driving on sand than on a road and they also must be able to.
Dharmu and I:
After dinner, showered
Dharmu and Balu washed his thick head of hair. There was no proper shower but only the bucket method. The first water from the water storage was cool, while the was still in the tub water is heated by the sun already.
in the yard, children playing and the little dog:
Rahgu had to buy henna in Pushkar and I wanted to pick up my backpack at Cheeku, so we took the scooter to Pushkar to load Cheeku, the was not there yet, even after several minutes of waiting there was still no trace of Cheeku. The neighboring shop said Cheeku would come later, so we went back again. Rahgu bought in the market and tomatoes and other vegetables in a special store bought Rahgu henna for dyeing the horses feet. As we drove back, we came back this time from the other side and had to drive it over sand and drove it really different on sand. Sometimes I thought that we would slip away, but Rahgu was a very safe and good driver. At home preparing Balu purchased the henna before, but the desired red color does not come out. The henna was green and went as not to color the horse's legs for a wedding. About 10 clock Annie came with her driver in the car. You got something to eat and I ate again with a little something.
Raghu and Dharmu:
Balus woman had made a very smart deal, as shown in the following picture and was then photographed by Annie and me:
morning Balu had already taken care of the horse and both the camel and the horse had been given to eat. Before we went Rahgu wanted to buy a few things like flour and oil. The camel he took to the little shop, because there was a water body directly next to it. I had also taken one of the large bucket with a handle to fetch some water for the family. I either pumped or used the water from the water tank, biting flies were at the tap a lot. Rahgu said it with water from the water tank would be easier and helped me turn up the faucet. Then he bought flour and oil and when the bucket of water and had enough to drink the camel, we went back. The bucket and the flour sack was quite heavy and I was glad when I was back at the house. The road was in fact more than I had expected. Annie jostled a little bit because she wanted to be really long since been set off. When was the camel was once moored and everything was stowed, we drank conclude with a chai tea and the drive to go Borundi.
In Borundi should find Dharmu, Balus woman and the child another woman and another 3 children to visit the mother's parents drive to Jodhpur. Thus, some will be saved in money, as schonmal 90 km have been completed up to Jodhpur by car. I sat up front beside the driver while the others were all sitting behind me or in part of the trunk.
In Borundi we were directly opposite the bus station. I filled my car in the empty bottle at the bus station has become again, but I was not aware that there were no normal Borundi in water but only slightly to heavily salted water. I learned this from Rahgu after I had something Rahgu discharged from the water and he just said that it tastes salty. So far I had not tried it, so tried I gave the water and Rahgu right. Thus, water can be drunk just bad, but I did it to save money. Annie and Rahgu bought in a shop, fresh, chilled water bottles. After a large part of the family (three adults and four children) with the bus were gone, we were driven to a large place in Borundi in order to go beyond the camel fair. It was a very windy day, so that the sand was beautiful with the wind swirled through the area. Something like that only get worse I imagined a sand storm. The sand storm in Beijing at that time was really harmless, however. We drove to the many tents and stands that any product offered by. That was something I had already seen in Khajuraho with less wind and much less sand in the air. From the middle of the site, there were no more tents for sale but there were only camels for sale, we see Staring us.
Rahgu and Balu had there knowledge of camels, but found none that appealed to them and if you liked it, it was too expensive for them. On the square in addition Competitions were held, with the camel-riding competition, I had either missed or he did not take place here. Annie, I learned that Dharmu had won last year in the Pushkar camel riding competition. In any case, nicely decorated camels were on the ground, under which won a prize and the top three with a man leading his camel a few tricks before, for which he earned applause.
(front right in the picture is to see Annie)
Elsewhere, we saw how a small, white really nice mare has been fertilized by a black, big, strong horse. Thus, the mare does not collapse under the weight, she was tied her feet. The owner of the stallion get for Rs 2000-3000, if the fertilization was successful. Then we went to a crowded tent, where we treated ourselves to chai tea. Here was the host with extra large t-drinking, non-saline water. Here I could fill my water bottle with plain water. Annie bought in the meantime, near some occupied with ringing bells, which are actually used for the decoration of horses. They wanted to remodel a bit, and for weddings, which she prepared in the near future use.
At the end of the Great Exhibition Square, there was a retail area with horses, which we went, I did not have much interest in the beautiful animals and I was exhausted, my visit with the horses was short. Then I sat back in the car, where I was protected from the sandy wind. The winds were also several shelters for the horses and even some of the exposed anchorages torn from the ground, the wind pressure is not could withstand more. So that the roof just tipped over along the horses that were naturally alarmed by much. It took a while until the roof was back and the horses were calm down. Annie and I watched everything from car on out and they told me that the horses are judged with the ear tips with each other particularly good and expensive horses. Balus horse was one of them. As Rahgu Balu and finished with the visit were, we drove back to Pushkar.
Rahgu and Balu were sold at home and I went with Annie on to Pushkar. Annie was let out at her hotel and told me that I should not have to pay for the trip, even though the trip cost at least Rs 1000! I has not yet taken a little further and then ran all the rest up to the loading Cheeku, which was closed, but neighbors said the store that he would later come again. So I waited and came Cheeku, I gave him his private business card in exchange for my backpack and a new business card. In addition, he still got the money for the camel ride by myself and then I went back with the backpack on the way to Annie's Hotel, where Balu looked yesterday started the film to end.
building in Pushkar:
Yesterday, while we started watching the movie, but because of the depleted battery pretty quickly we could not watch the movie to end, although Rahgu had fast-forwarded again and again. The House of Rahgu, Balu and Dharmu has no electricity namely, what in my view, in turn, makes it very comfortable. Thus one has to rely on the natural light of day. For Annie, I showered and put me unfortunately again, that is my stomach worse. Then I had to wait a while until I was driven by Balu home, so in the meantime I talked to the son of the hotel owner. Although the family was financially rich, but had suffered some time ago a very great loss because her daughter has disappeared and is no longer appeared so far. There is a presumption that she was kidnapped, but more is not known. Balu looked lively on the film and around the end to speed up a little because Annie pressed him, he reeled again and again. When the film was over, we were finally able to go.
Annie Balu recalled working to fill up again, because probably is not much petrol in the tank. Namely, he should not be like last time, again due to an empty fuel tank assembly must go. We drove off and bought at the end of Pushkar have new red henna. I took one of the fallen chillies because my chilli seeds from Manali in the black bag were stolen. Then we drove home and on the go, although I had previously Balu also asked again whether he would still fill up, we ran out of fuel. He pushed the motorcycle and I ran with the pack back in the dark. There were no street lights. Back at home we had dinner and I talked a little with Rahgu, who then went for a celebration of neighbors. Balu prepare the Hänna in order subsequently to be applied to the feet of the horse. My flashlight, which was significantly better than that of Balu, found their hard work that night. I was happy after this very long and exciting day to finally lie in bed and sleep.
